BTS, the world's best K-pop singer in 2020…an undisputed No. 1 for five years

BTS (BTS) was named the world's most beloved K-pop singer in 2020.

In a 2020 K-pop settlement survey conducted by KBS World Radio, BTS ranked first in the "singer of the year" category. In an online survey by KBS World Radio, which marks its fifth anniversary this year, 21.5 percent of 378,593 respondents from 185 countries pointed to BTS. In addition, BTS ranked No. 1 on "Boy Group of the Year" (30.3%) and "Dynamic" ranked No. 1 in "Song of the Year" (36.5%).

BLACKPINK topped the list of "Girls of the Year" with 29.5 percent. BLACKPINK ranked second in the "Singer of the Year" category and "How You Like That" ranked second in the "Song of the Year."

Meanwhile, TREASURE topped the list with 35.5% of the vote as the "new of the year" who showed remarkable activities in 2020. In addition, TWICE, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, Stray Kids, EXO, and nct127 were still ranked at the top in the "Girls of the Year" and "Boy Group of the Year" sections.

This year's survey, especially in Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, attracted more respondents from various nationalities and cultures around the world, including India, the U.S., Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, realizing the popularity of K-pop, which is loved even during the Korna 19 fan-like era.

Pop music critic Kim Yoon-ha predicted, "Various non-face-to-face attempts by Corona 19 are likely to continue in K-pop for the time being next year, and fierce competition between talented groups with their own worldview and unique style is expected as discussions expand."

The survey was conducted by KBS World Radio from November 27 to December 7 through its website and mobile app, and the survey was conducted in a total of five categories (singer of the year, song of the year, rookie of the year, and boy group/girl group of the year). Candidates were selected based on the KBS Music Bank Top 10 chart in 2020.
